Welcome to Swan Creek Rowing Club!
|
|
The Swan Creek Rowing Club is named for the Swan Creek, a leading
tributary flowing through Lambertville, New
Jersey to the Delaware River.
Our club was founded in 1992 by individuals interested in promoting
rowing in the area. Members are from diverse backgrounds and vary from
novice rowers to those who have maintained a lifelong interest in
rowing. Many gained their experience in college. We share a common bond
in our love of the river.

The river level is extremely low and with no rain in the extented forecast, it is likely to get lower. Please be very careful not only for rocks below the surface, but also for other rowers as the navigable channel gets narrower and narrower.
There is a police alert along the Towpath. Several women have been attacked and the attacker has not yet been apprehended. Be careful in the early mornings and later evenings when there aren't many people around. Another good reason to row with a buddy.
Lighting and Thunder is a real danger out on the river:
· If you hear thunder, lightning is close enough to strike you.
· When you hear thunder, immediately move to safe shelter (and for us rowers, get off the water asap).
· No one is permitted to row until at least 30 minutes after you hear the last clap of
thunder.
Charlie has put an information sheet at the sign out desk. Read it.
2010 Rookie Regatta in Philly
The 2010 Schuylkill River Rookie Regatta hosted by Penn AC Rowing Association, will be held the morning of Saturday, August, 7th. The Regatta is open to masters rowers who have been rowing for not more than five seasons or, if rowing longer, have never raced. Races are 1000m; we will be using the race course that begins below Strawberry Mansion Bridge. Races begin at 9am and will end around noon, depending on the number of events to be raced.
Boat Maintenance: (ARE WE DOING THIS?)
- (It is not only the outside of the boat that needs to be cleaned - clean runners are essential for a smooth row. The interiors of all of our team boats should be cleaned after every row.
- In this hot weather it is important to undo the bung holes and screw in caps in the hull. Let that hot air escape
Reminders: Don't forget to sign up for towel and water bottle duty!
See you on the river and have a great 4th of July.
Jane

Sculling / Intermediate & Advanced Clinics
Coach B will be giving a series of sculling clinics, and the Master's sweep clinic planning is underway. Contact B oblimey@aol.com if you have any questions.
Intermediate & Advanced Sculling Clinics
The cost will be $10 per person for each clinic, no pre-registration with me required, though individuals who do not have their own rowing shell, should reserve one using the website in advance of the clinic.
Although there are times specified for "intermediate" and "advanced" rowers, anyone is welcome to attend either session because everyone will receive individual coaching based on the technical focus of the day. That said, a relatively new sculler, might be more comfortable participating in the intermediate sessions, but a more experienced rower could easily benefit equally from either the intermediate or the advanced clinic.
Tuesday, 6-Jul Advance Sculling 6:30-8PM
Sunday, 11-Jul Intermediate Sculling 8:30-10AM;
Tuesday, 3-Aug Advance Sculling 6:30-8PM
Tuesday, 10-Aug Intermediate Sculling 6:30-8PM
Sunday, 15-Aug Intermediate Sculling 8:30-10AM;

Night Rowing
DO NOT ROW in the dark. Get off the water before
dark. If you are going out in the evening and may be returning during
low light conditions OR rowing in the early morning, you must have an
appropriate bow light on the boat. We will have more lights available
soon in the equipment shed. If there is no bow light available do not
row.
Blue Flag -
indicates cold water. Novices may not row,
experienced rowers row at your own risk. Singles should not go out
alone. A novice is anyone who has started rowing
this year. |
